Rui Retagi

Managing Director, Guthumba Consultancy Services, France

Mr. Rui Retagi is a Oil & Gas, Mining and Renewables senior executive with over 18 years’ experience with passages in 10 different countries in 4 different continents (Africa, South America, North America, & Asia).

Whilst undertaking these ventures I have managed to generate almost $4bn in direct returns in assets to entities he has provided services to.

The above comes with more than 14 years in transactional execution of Capital structured projects (Greenfields and Brownfields), leveraging traditional financing within several contractual regimes (EPC, EPCM EPCIC, BOT etc) leading to more than $3bn (financed) in projects delivered worldwide and 5 years of advising in green financing modelling, by incorporating ESGs risk-based allocation to the sources of funding (project finance, multilaterals capital markets, etc) leading to more than $1.8bn in financing raise.

Having worked in both as a client and as service provider to de clients, he understands the intricacies between the day-day financing of projects to operations from a client perspective versus the service requirements thereof especially when delivering highly capitalized projects within EPC/EPCM EPCIC environments, as highlighted by the examples below:

  • HUSAB Uranium Mine Development (Namibia), whereby Iead a team of 30 multicultural personnel (Chinese, South Africans, Canadians and Philippines) and with some of the biggest Chinese house hold contractors (CNNC, Sinohidro, CSCEC) and a Capital budget of $1.4Bn spent through an EPCM contract to the delivery of biggest Uranium mine in Africa for China General Nuclear Power Group (CGNPC).
  • Sepon Copper-Gold mine expansion (Laos/Vietnam) whereby I lead a team to implement the 24month $109 Mill mine expansion with an EPC contracts regime with two major Chinese contractors (CRBC and CSCEC)
  • Negotiated the PPAs and BOTs for a $19.9M 200 family Solar PV-mini grid village as the Renewable energy program in Mozambique;
  • The $30Mill, green finance (origination and negotiation) program of off-grid power supply schemes for remote Gas exploration facilities within West Africa, as means to attend the Sasol carbon foot print reduction 2030 strategy.
